Professional Communication is indeed the road to success!!
The journey through this module was indeed enjoyable yet insightful. I have learnt several things in depth; life-long skills which will certainly help me in different aspects of my life besides my career. The main message that this course conveyed to me is that understanding the different aspects of communication is very crucial to an individual as only then will he be able to effectively convey his message to others; preventing any misunderstanding. However, just understanding the communicational skills is not sufficient, we have to integrate it into our daily lives and practice it for sometime before we can become good at it.Certain topics such as the interpersonal conflicts and intercultural skills that were covered during this module were quite close to heart and thus, this enabled us to express our thoughts and experiences freely in our blogs. The blogs certainly gave me an opportunity to learn and appreciate different styles of writings and view numerous perspectives for any one topic.
Through the assignments, I had the opportunity to rectify my mistakes in drafting crucial professional documents such as my resume and application letters. If I had drafted these letters prior to the knowledge I have gathered from this module, I would have produced unimpressive letters which would made me lose several job opportunities!! (when Ms Goh was correcting my mistakes, I was telling myself, thank goodness I attended this course!).
Like I have mentioned in my profile, I am quite a diplomatic person. I would rather solve a problem as soon as possible instead of allowing the problem to get out of hand. Thus, my favourite topic of the blogging was addressing interpersonal conflicts. I really enjoyed reading the solutions offered by the class for the various problems; some of the solutions did not even cross my mind. Thus, this certainly helped me to further improve my diplomatic skills..:)
Last but not least, would like to thank Ms Goh for engaging us actively during the classes; making the class so lively and interactive that at times we do not even realize that the time is passing so fast. If not for her, the journey through the course would not have been so smooth and enjoyable.

ReplyDeleteInteresting reflection you have written there. You post made me realise that I forgot to mention anything about the blog writing aspect of our module.
Anyway, I do agree with you that writing and reading blogs gave me the opportunity to different styles of writing. The little discussions we had while writing comments also gave me the opportunity to learn from others. This is the kind of interaction we do not normally encounter in the other modules we take.
I believe that it is from the various interactions we had during lessons that gave all of us the opportunity to gain many different out-of-class experiences.
Like you, I truly appreciate the skills I have picked up from this course and I believe I now have a much better understanding of what effective communication is all about.

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I totally agree with what you said in this post, especially the part where we have to integrate into our daily lives and practice it. Practice makes perfect and this even applies to communication skills as well. Talk more, listen more, hear more, write more can definitely push us further. =)
I myself have learnt a lot from Miss Goh as well! Especially when she was pointing out our resumes, I was like “Wow, ya! How come I didn’t think of putting that as well?” And also the business letter whereby the tone and the formality matters so much as well.
I personally have enjoyed all your posts regarding interpersonal conflicts; it opens up my mind to many different kinds of scenarios and forces me to see from another person’s point of view. Very interesting.Great job to you! I am sure each of us has learnt something from one another and through Miss Goh as well!

ReplyDeleteYou’ve started your reflection with a very meaningful title. Indeed, professional communication is an essential skill we need to acquire as we strive for success. Being able to communicate effectively with others would help us to improve interpersonal relationships and avoid misunderstandings.
In addition, I agree with you the valuable feedback Ms Goh gave has really helped us to improve on crafting effective resumes and application letters. Though the workload for this module is heavy, reading interesting blogposts help us de-stressed at times.
